The Laundry Room: Organizing

The laundry room - Organizing

Before you can even start to clean out the laundry room you need to get it a bit more organized which leads to our favorite thing – pitching and getting rid of those things that we don’t use anymore!

So, if you have a bucket that has a hole in it, why do you keep it? Get rid of it! Maybe you have two mops, one that is on the brink of falling apart from using it so much and another that you bought a few weeks ago. It is time to let go of that old mop and get it out of your laundry room.

If you are like me, you keep all types of cleaners in the laundry room because they are just out of the way there. However, sometimes you will find that you have three or four of the same thing, and all of them are used. Consolidate your bottles of cleaners, by pouring the same cleaner in another bottle that is the same kind but that is also half empty. This saves you room and gets your more organized, you will know exactly how much of anything you have at one time.

You can make up a cleaning bucket that you can take from room to room when you are cleaning. One for wet cleaning, which would be rags, bleach, soap, germ killers, soap scum cutter, toilet cleaner, and window cleaner. Take this bucket with you in any room that you are going to clean using liquids.

Another bucket is going to be made up of cleaners that are used for fighting dust, polishing wood, carpet stain fighters, carpet fresheners and a few rags or towels that you use for dry cleaning in the home.

Extra cleaners that you have in stock in the laundry room can be stacked above the washer, in the cupboards, or even on the floor in a large plastic container if you have to. Organizing the stuff, you use every day and separate out what you only need for deep cleaning days will help you organize your laundry, keeping the daily stuff easily within your reach.

The laundry seems to be a catch all place for things to end up where they are not wanted in other areas of the house. Keeping toys, broken items and too many extra things in the laundry most likely is going to not only take up your space but also drive you nuts. Get rid of broken things if they can’t be repaired.

Extra pieces for the television, computer, and other electronics often make their way to the shelf in this room just to get them out of the living room or the computer room. Put them in a box and put them in the attic out of sight because you do not need these things in your way when you are trying to get cleaning the house! If similar type items are in your laundry room, find out if they are needed and if not just get rid of them!

Organization in your laundry room is also putting every thing that is hanging away in the rooms where it belongs. You should not have any types of clothes, jackets, or curtains in the laundry room when done. Closets are a great place for coats, curtains, drapes, tablecloths, and jackets that not used.
