The Bathroom: Cleaning tips |

The bathroom - Cleaning tipsDeodorizing your bathroom is going to be an ongoing fight against smells. If you have a window or fan, opening these will allow odors to escape more often. Stains on the counters can be cleaned up fast using baking soda and a little water. Another solution in getting rid of stains on the counters is using oxyclean or bleach that will soak into the stain and you can rub it right off. You might be surprised, but often you can rub a little regular toothpaste over stains and the stain goes away quickly with no chemicals needed at all! Shower curtains that are on the outside of the shower, used for decorations, can be washed monthly in the washer and hung up to dry. This keeps odors and bacteria from starting on the shower curtain. Taking the curtain rod down once a month, or just as needed, and simply wiping across the bar with a hot soapy water is going to cut through all the dust that accumulates on the shower rod as it just hangs there all the time! Toothbrushes are one of the best tools in the bathroom. You can scrub just about anywhere and get out that dirt or mold that is in areas where your cleaning rag just won’t reach into. Your bathroom mirror will shine longer if you were to wax it as you do your car as well. Waxing the bathroom mirror gives, it added protection from moisture floating in the air so you can see in the mirror all the time. For a fast clean on the toilet, throw a few denture-cleaning tablets in, get ready for work, and then flush! If you are working in a very small bathroom with strong cleaners, don’t forget to turn on the exhaust fan and wear a mask if you have too. Chemicals can cause dizzy spells or can cause lung damage if you inhale too much at one time. One way to prevent soap scum and mildew growth in the shower is to leave the shower open and the exhaust fan on so the area dries faster. In the long run this is going to save you on cleaning time! If you have a step in shower, without high walls, and with out a faucet, you can clean the shower when you are in taking a shower to be sure to get all the soap and walls clean just as you like it! Soap scum is going to be easier to remove if you have really hot water. The steam loosens the soap scum a bit, making it easier to clean off. Putting nail polish on the bottom of cans that you have in the bathroom is going to seal the can and prevent the rust rings that can start on your sink or in your tub from the moisture causing the metal to rust. Don’t forget to clean out the bottoms of your cups and toothbrush holders at least every other day. Washing them out with a little hot water and soap keeps germs from spreading through the entire family. The drains in your toilet are smaller than what you might think. Do not flush cleaning wipes, tampons, cotton swabs, or tissues that have lotion on them. These items are going to get trapped and eventually clog up your drains causing real problems and possibly an overflow in the bathroom! |
