The Master Bedroom : Odors |
|||
The master bedroom - OdorsOdors in any room in the house can sometimes be difficult to fight. First, you need to think about where the odors could be coming from. Do you have a pair of sneakers under the bed that you put away wet? Are your fishing pants lying on the floor in the room without being washed for four days? Maybe you had cooked something in the kitchen and the odors are lingering through the house? When your bedroom begins to smell, you might want to consider a few things: How long has it been since you have changed your sheets? If you have already changed your sheets in the last few weeks, wash your blankets. Odors from your body or odors from the rest of the house can be ‘stuck’ in the blankets. Again, look for shoes, socks, wet items in the bedroom that could be causing a smell and take care of these items. Using potpourri in the bedroom is a great option. Just setting some in a bowl and setting it on the shelving, under the bed, on the television or wherever is going to keep your room odor free and smelling great. Cleaning your drapes, curtains and blinds could be needed if you were cooking something that really left lingering odors in the bedroom and through the house. If you don’t have the time to find the odor right now, sprinkle carpet freshener over your carpet and in a few hours, the carpet freshener is going to absorb much of the smell from the room, all you have to do is vacuum it up. If you have pets, or very small children, you are going to have to look for accidents and little pee spots that could be causing an odor in your bedroom. While we always want to think that pets won’t or don’t leave messes, they can when you least expect it. The following advice will help you to clean up after your pet has messed in your home. The worst smell of all is cat urine. Cat urine has a very strong smell and the odor can linger for weeks. The following advice will apply to all type of pet urine and also any smells or odors that are left after your pet might have done a poo. (poop, whoopsie, etc). Obviously remove the heavy stuff first. To Clean pet urine from the carpet: First, blot up what you can with paper towels. Mix one teaspoon mild dish-washing detergent in one cup warm water, dip a clean towel in the liquid and, working from outside in, dab at stain. Do not over wet. Rinse with fresh water and blot dry. Next, add on-third cup white vinegar with two-thirds cup water and dab on stain. Rinse with water; blot until dry. Once area is totally dry (after at least 24 hours), sprinkle entire carpet with baking soda (Bicarbonate of soda) or rug deodorizer. Vacuum after a few hours. |
