The Kitchen: Silverware

The kitchen – Silverware

Your silverware in the kitchen is used every day. Every day your silverware can be stained or look a little rough if you do not keep them clean and protected when they are not in use. Silverware should be stored in a drawer and separated so you can easily grab it any time you need a certain piece.

To get stains off your silverware, you can soak them in vinegar or in hot soapy water. Rubbing a little baking soda over the toughest stains will help as well. If you have ‘real’ silver silverware, you should never use anything but silver polish on your silverware.

Most of us use silverware that is not real silver, it is a metal that can be soaked, scrubbed, and can be cleaned with scratchy pads to clean the dried on foods off.

Lemon juice or bleach is great for getting fruit stains off your silverware that has been sitting in the fruit bowl too long.

If you find that some of your silverware is starting to look a little rusty, you can use a brillo pad to remove the rust. Rubbing your silverware with oil while they are not in use will prolong the use of your silverware until you can get a new set.
