The Kitchen: Sinks

The kitchen – Sinks

Sinks in the kitchen come in all types and sizes but they can often be left looking really gross by the end of just one day. When you are baking, cooking and cleaning in the kitchen, your sink is most often the center of your world. Dirt, grease, grime and smells will stick in your sink unless you clean it out.

The sink is one of those ‘things’ that you will need to clean out every day or at least every other day. If you are like most of us you have a stainless steel sink that you don’t want to get all scratched up.  A clean stainless steel sink is the pride of every kitchen!

Using a rag and some dish soap you can clean out the sink quickly after each time you are finished with the dinner dishes. There are many types of great products like barkeepers friend, which is a type of powder that you can rub over the stainless with water but it will not scratch like other types of powders.

Liquid soft soaps, soft scrubs, bleach, vinegar and your favorite spray cleaners will do the job to clean the stainless sink as well. It is however, important to wash away all the chemicals out of the sink so that you don’t accidentally transfer any over to your foods when cooking or washing dishes the next day.

Rinsing out your sink well will also prevent the seals in your sink drains from being ‘eaten’ away if you are using strong chemicals such as straight bleach.

Cleaning out your sink three or four times a week will keep bacteria, molds and rust from forming in and on your sink which means you have eliminated a future problem and saving money in the long run!
