The Cleaning Book Clean til' it gleams

Outside of your home: A little fixing

Outside - A little fixing

Depending on the amount of time and expertise you have, repairing cracks in the sidewalks, painting the deck or fixing the driveway all things you should tackle during the first of the spring months. These things affect the exterior of your home and the impression that your guests ‘get’ when coming in to your home.

Curb appeal is a term used to described what others see when the look at your home. When someone drives by your home, pulls in your driveway, or sees your house for the first time, seeing a clean and well organized yard will provoke good thoughts.  ‘Things’ that are disturbing, out of place, and dirty are unattractive.

To create real curb appeal for your home, add a bit more landscape to your yard. Plant a few flowers, a tree and keep the grass trimmed back. If you can’t afford to ‘do’ a lot, just start with a little, a few hours at a time and work your way to a beautiful yard.

To increase your curb appeal, be sure to fix the driveway and keep it ‘hole’ free. Potholes are terrible to drive over and look at; your driveway condition will also lengthen the good condition of your car!

Keep your garage door closed if you are hiding big messes and garbage cans in the garage. Your clean and tidy ‘look’ is more complete with the garage doors closed.

Clean and paint your home as needed, at least once a year. While you won’t have to paint the house every year, just touching up windows sills, doors or fences as needed will keep the exterior of your home gleaming.

Around the exterior of your home, you can increase the curb appeal of your home by picking up toys; tools and sweeping the driveway in the spring from rocks that have accumulated.

When your guests are arriving at your door, they will notice squeaky hinges and doorbells that do not work. Be sure to oil the hinges if you need to and fix the doorbell that does not work. These minor repairs will increase the appeal of your home for visitors!

Before you head indoors to start your cleaning spree, be sure to double check how clean your outdoor furniture is. Hose it down. Wipe it Off. Repair what needs repaired. Make sure your outdoor furniture is ready for a great party if you are outside when visitors come to visit you
